Founded in 1992, the Irish Academy of Public Relations and its sister college, The Irish Academy, are independent educational foundations dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. Each college specialises in a specific area of communications.

Public Relations Courses
The Irish Academy of Public Relations specialises in courses in Public Relations and related areas. The H. Dip in PR is a post-graduate course for those who already hold a primary qualification. The Academy also offers a Certificate in “Public Relations and PR Writing Skills”. At foundation level, the “Introduction to Public Relations” course is taught by colleges throughout the country and is also available by distance learning. Courses are taught, on campus, at UCD (Dublin), UCC (Cork) and GMIT (Galway).

Journalism Courses
Our sister college, The Irish Academy, offers a post-graduate Diploma in Journalism course, geared to those seeking a career as a journalists. The Academy also offers a Certificate course in “Journalism and Print Production”. At foundation level, the “Practical Journalistic Writing Skills” course is taught by distance learning. Courses are taught, on campus, at UCD (Dublin), UCC (Cork) and GMIT (Galway).

Event management
The Academy offers a Diploma in Event Management which is geared to people who want to work in the industry or who are already working in the industry, but need a professional qualification. The Diploma covers planning, management, health and safety, staffing, legislative and organizational aspects of event management.

Television Presenting
Our Diploma in Television presenting offers attendees an opportunity to learn about the industry, including the technical aspects, makeup and clothing, interview techniques and stress management. Students complete an outdoor shoot and a studio interview and receive a showreel at the end of the course. This is the only Diploma in TV Presenting in the country.

Grammar
The Academy offers two specially designed courses in grammar, specifically written to meet the needs of journalists and sub-editors. These courses are offered by distance learning.

Corporate Training
Our corporate training division provides in- company training, nationwide, in communications specializations. Courses are tailored to meet the specific needs of the company and generally last for 1-2 days on site. We come to you.

TAP Awards
The Academy sponsors the annually charity TAP Awards. A charity is chosen each year and students of our post-graduate courses compete to design a fundraising proposal for them, capable of raising €250,000 annually. An independent panel of judges assesses the submissions and selects the winner. The charity receives the award-winning fundraising concept for life, and the student – in addition to receiving the trophy and a cash prize of €2000 – gets valuable consultancy hours working with the charity.

Books
On this site you will find books about public relations and journalism. Additional texts will be added over time.

PR Consultancy
The Academy’s PR wing (previously Elton Communications) advises a broad range of clients on communications and media relations issues. Our team is happy to meet you to discuss your requirements.

Lecturers and Trainers
The lecturers and trainers of the Academy are all highly respected practitioners in their fields. Participants benefit from their wealth of experience, practical examples, case studies and day-to-day involvement in the industry.

Memberships
The Academy, through our director, holds active membership of the NUJ (National Union of Journalists), the PRII (Public Relations Institute of Ireland), CERP (European Confederation of Public Relations Practitioners) and IPRA (International Public Relations Association).
