SYLLABUS OUTLINE
In each semester the primary concentration is on Journalistic Writing as the core subject.

Financial & Business Studies
The Media
Print Production
Media Law
Government Structures
Broadcast Media
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should be advised that the Diploma in Journalism is a 3rd.
level course, for which the following entry requirements are necessary:
- Candidates must be at least 20 years of age.
- Candidates should have achieved their Leaving Certificate with passes in 5 subjects,
one of which should be English.
- Candidates are encouraged to send relevant additional information in support of their
application.
Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of written and spoken English.
Note: Students are advised that proficiency in shorthand and computer literacy are necessary
for the practice of journalism. These subjects are not an entry requirement for the Diploma,
nor are they taught during the year. Students are strongly advised to acquire these skills if they
wish to work in the media industry.
Mature applicants who fail to meet the above requirements should contact the Academy
regarding application procedures.Selection will be by written application only. Places are limited and will, therefore, be offered
in order of application and suitability.
FEES
The fee for the Diploma in Journalism is €1,850. Application forms should be accompanied by a
deposit of €150. The deposit will be refunded if the application is unsuccessful.
The balance of the fee will be invoiced to students who have been accepted onto the course, and should be paid in
full before the course begins.
Students are liable to pay examination fees, currently €425 per student.
