SYLLABUS OUTLINE

The Certificate course provides a thorough foundation in the art, skill and practice of public relations. In addition, participants study the role of mass media in PR and how to structure a press release. Certification is awarded on successful submission of a project and three written assignments.

Ethics, Objectives, Publics and Techniques
PR Photography
Print, Video and Internet
Organising Functions
Exhibitions, Workshops, Seminars and Conferences
Preparing and Delivering a PR Proposal
Role of the In-house Press / Media Officer

PR Writing Skills

Basic grammar
The mass media
The relationship between PR and the media
Selecting the right media
Press release writing

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should be advised that the Certificate in Public Relations and PR Writing is a third level course for which the following entry requirements are necessary:

  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Candidates should have achieved their Leaving Certificate with passes in 5 subjects, one of which should be English.
  • Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of written and spoken English

Mature applicants who fail to meet the above requirements should contact the Academy regarding application procedures.

Selection will be by written application only. Places are limited and will, therefore, be offered subject to availability.

FEES

The fee for the Certificate in Public Relations and PR Writing Skills is €730. Application forms should be accompanied by a deposit of €75.

The deposit will be refunded if the application is unsuccessful.

The balance of the fee will be invoiced to students who have been accepted onto the course, and should be paid in full before the course begins.

Students are liable to pay examination fees, currently €250 per student.
