When choosing a PR course last year, I was trying to find an institute that is offering a practical course and at the same time it is really covering the most important topics of public relations. Since I am always on the way, it was absolutely perfect for me to have the possibility to do the course online.

The assignments related to every single topic were very interesting and useful, not only to get an insight into the different areas of Public Relations, but also to fully understand and have the chance to work on the details, just as in real life.

The evaluation of the assignments were very clear and encouraging. If you are interested in learning, I definitely recommend to take the course!

It was just a pleasure to study in the Irish Academy. I enjoyed my courses and I found great help by doing my assignments. My tutor gave me all the necessary help to understand not only the basics, but also she offered me a deep education of the studies in journalism. I will absolutely recommend the Irish Academy to my friends and relatives who want to participate in courses relevant to PR and Journalism. Thanks, again for all your help because the experience I gained is invaluable.

Anna Blomberg

Journalism Graduate

I would recommend your courses to anybody interested in how the news-world is working. It gave me lots of insights. And it also gave me lots of new vocabulary which makes it easier for me as a foreigner to catch up what people are talking about in the radio, in conversations etc.

Antoinette Larkin

Public Relations Graduate

The PR degree from the Irish Academy of Public Relations combines practice with theory in ways that allow a graduate to tackle any real world promotional challenges. The ability to work with those involved in the Smoking Ban campaign, build projects for Enable Ireland and other organizations with international reach enables a graduate to hit the ground running, as it were. In my own case, I was able to take lessons in writing press release and strategic communication into rich curriculum activities that I can offer my students at the University of Cincinnati. The alumni network also provides opportunities for ongoing professional development and growth.

Jeremie Pappin

Radio Presenter Graduate

I am a recent university graduate and wanted to learn more about radio presenting. I recently completed the radio presenting course with the Irish Academy of Public Relations. The Irish Academy's course fit in with my busy schedule and was all I could have hoped for it to be. Ellen and Heather offer very insightful coaching from the technical side (vox pops, sound production etc), how to run a radio station (programming, operations etc) and how to properly conduct an interview. Another selling point was the fact that you got to keep your demo disk free of charge after the course. I really enjoyed the course and I believe it was my best choice to help get me where I want to be as a radio presenter. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to proper training on everything related to radio presenting.

Ciara Baragwanath

TV Presenter Graduate

I took this course of study as it is my dream job to be on TV. My dad saw an ad for the course on TV the day before it began and encouraged me to do it. At first I was unsure as I had no previous experience at working in front of a camera but now I am really pleased I did it. The course was really loads of fun and I met some friends I know I will remain in contact with. I would definitely recommend to anybody who is interested in a career in television to take part in this course as it is an opportunity for everyone to further their career opportunities.

My job requires me to travel a lot so when it came to choosing a course, it had to be done online and in my time, so The Irish Academy was the perfect institute for me.

The teachers were fast and efficient to replying to emails and were always there to help when needed.

I wanted to learn more about Public Relations and the course that I did covered all of the important topics of PR.

The modules and assignments were very clear and easy to understand.

When it came to the evaluating of the assignment, the teachers were always very precise in their marking and encouraging.

I would highly recommend this institute to everyone that is looking into it!

I attended the Radio Presenters Course in September 2014 and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The course was well presented and handled by two highly acclaimed professionals (Ellen Gunning and Mick Hanley). Their knowledge and years of practice, dedication, diligence and professionalism impacted intensely on me and I reckon, as well as on the rest of the attendees. All the aspects of the training dealt with were relevant to real life experiences and participants were given the opportunity to try their hands on the subject matter by properly supervised use of equipment.  The instructions were clear and easy to follow and the feedback was also very helpful.

I was not bored in any way because the trainers made it very interesting and also gave the participants every possible opportunity to ask questions and they provided very helpful answers.

At the end of the training, certificates were issued and demo discs were also presented.

The facilities of Dublin City FM (a fully operational radio station in Dublin) were readily made available to all the participants.  After the training I am sure that with all that I have been taught, I am now ready to start a career in radio presenting.

This course is highly recommended.

I am very happy.  In 10 weeks I got a good overview of the profession and the feedback from my tutor was very helpful. I found the course pleasantly challenging. I would definitely recommend the course and advise the new learners to really dig deep into their assignments with a lot of research- it will pay off! English isn't my mother-tongue so doing this course pointed out the areas in my language skills that need attention and I'm thankful for that. I have always wanted to write publicly and this course provided me with a huge amount of knowledge on how to do so without hurting anyone’s feelings or honour, including my own. Thank you!

Mark Tynan, Managing Director Tynan Data Systems Ltd. and part-time lecturer UCD Lochlann Quinn School of Business

Radio Presenter Graduate

Irish Academy of Public Relation's Radio Presenters Course is the perfect 'toe-in-the-water' for anyone considering a career in radio and is delivered by some of the most experienced professionals in the business. Although there's only so much that can be covered in a day, the course covers front-of-mic basics from news reading, through to vox-pop and interviewing. Being interviewed in a radio-studio can be a daunting and unfamiliar experience, so even for those considering a career in public relations the course can be a very useful tool in helping to acclimatise to what can initially seem like a very alien environment.

Liping Xiong

Journalism Graduate

The Certificate in Journalism course has given me more knowledge and enjoyment than I expected. Instead of stating boring rules and regulations, each module presents the key points with plenty of interesting examples and stories, making it fun to read and easy to understand. That said, I would have learned very little if I hadn't done the exercises or my tutor hadn't made detailed corrections and comments. I think the tutor's professional feedback is the most valuable part of this course, and I can see myself going over those comments and suggestions long after the course is finished. Therefore, I am very happy to recommend the course to anyone who is interested in journalism or writing properly.

Very interesting course, that covers every aspects of PR and gives a great understanding of the job. The feedback from the tutor was really constructive. Highly recommended!.

I would like to thank you for a fantastic course which I thoroughly enjoyed! I would also like to add that it has opened my mind up to the realisation of what area in the broadcasting/media industry I would like to pursue.

Manuela Spinelli

Public Relations Graduate

I thoroughly enjoyed the Public Relations Course. It gave me an opportunity to put into context my experience in the field and expand my knowledge. The assignments are very well structured and an excellent incentive to further your studies. I always tried to draw examples from personal work experiences and found that this helped my understanding. I enjoyed the interaction with my tutor, who patiently answered all my questions. My advice to anybody who wishes to sign up is: take your time for each assignment! The more you research, the more you learn!

Maria Solange G’Mara

I completed the PR & Marketing Online Course. It gave me the latest news about social media and social network managing. The idea of creating a strategy from the first module was brilliant, it was not only theory but practical. The tutor´s responses were great and helpful to understand every point that was not clear enough. Thanks for the opportunity to join you!

I am endlessly happy that I found this PR course! I would like to emphasize that the entire studying process was very thoughtfully and precisely organized.

All modules and my tutor’s feedbacks were always provided to me on time. Moreover, all my requests were promptly met by the staff of PR Academy. The course itself combines both theory and practice in a very interesting way. Thus, after completing each module, I was impatiently waiting to start the next one. It is important that the student can also choose the language in what he/she prefers to study the course. For example, my native language is Russian, but I had an option to take course in other languages. Therefore, I studied in English and learning PR aspects and improving my English at the same time.

Actually, I am looking for a job in Marketing and PR right now and I am sure that the knowledge from the course will undoubtedly help me in my future career.

I want to thank all the staff of Irish Academy and especially my tutor, who’s feedbacks were extremely encouraging and inspiring all the time.

Highly recommend this course to people interested in PR!

Paula Downes

Social Media Marketing Graduate

I recently completed an Online Marketing and PR course with the Irish Academy of Public Relations. As I have a full time job, I found the online option appealing to me. With two weeks to complete an assignment, I never felt under pressure to meet deadlines as I was able to work under my own speed.

The assignments were interesting, practical and easy to follow which meant a lot to me, as I was a complete beginner with regard to social media.

My tutor Anne Kiely could not have been more helpful. She provided me with invaluable feedback and endless encouragement every step of the way.

In terms of success, I have no hesitation in saying that my company has benefited greatly as a direct result of my completing this course. We have steadily gained more business and more visits across all our social media platforms.

I would definitely advise anyone who is interested in social media to undertake this course.

The radio presenting course is actually one thing that made me love Dublin! I got to meet great, wonderful people. I applied for this course because I want to be a presenter; being on television or radio is okay for me, but since this course I am more into radio presenting. I joined this course so that I could get a job as a radio presenter, whether it's for news, entertainment or current affairs.

All in all, it is a great experience and I really recommend it to anyone who is interested in being a presenter to try it out, as they would really enjoy it!

As a university graduate with 25 years specialising in communications, advocacy, crisis management, logistics and project coordination the Certificate in Public Relations provided an excellent mid-career opportunity to review my expertise.

The unique way in which the course is designed means that students at various stages in their respective careers can benefit from investing time doing this course while fitting it around other reponsibilities.

Consequently I strongly recommend this course to students who may be new to Public Relations, have significant expertise but may wish to review their experience or realise that a knowledge of Public Relations would be beneficial to their professional careers.

I started studying with the Irish Academy of Public Relations after a friend of mine recommended their certificate course in News Journalism. The course allowed me to return to study with like minded people in a relaxed and professional set up at an affordable price.

I have since upgraded to the Academy's Diploma course in journalism and just recently attended their one day certificate course in Radio Broadcasting which was held at the Radio Na Life studios in Dublin. Studying with the Academy has been a pleasure from day one and their help and guidance has been a crucial factor in enabling me to achieve a life-long ambition.

I am a Dr. Of Chiropractic and a former international athlete so most of my life thus far has been consumed with that. I saw the advert for the course and said yes! That's it! Perfect! After that the rest is history! I have been lucky enough to have been offered my own 8 min sports slot on the evening show at the city channel. I can't wait to start. So excited about the future! Watch this space!

I’m very glad that I did the course. I had a great professor. I was an unusual student. I explained to Lisa in the Academy’s office that I would write to her in English but study in Spanish. I wanted to keep my Spanish good. I was born in La Paz, Bolivia and came to live in Uruguay when I was 13 years old. My parents spoke Russian to each other at home, and tried to encourage us to do the same. I have spoken English and Spanish since I was 5 years old.
I have a cultural centre. I am the headmaster and owner and I needed to let people know about it in Uruguay. That is why I studied this course. It will help me with my work. I never studied by distance before but I found it wonderful. I am now finished – at 76 years old – and I am using my new skills already. I am already trying to get to know people who would be interested in the centre and want to be connected with the arts. One group is coming to Uruguay from San Pablo, Brazil and they will be visiting me at the centre to see if we can work together.

Valentina Defendini

Event Management Graduate

I only have very good things to say about the Event Management distance learning course I took with the Irish Academy of Public Relations. To start with, I thought it was very well structured, the modules were very informative but easy to read through and the combination of the theory and the different assignments per week was ideal to put in practice what I just learnt which helped in the overall learning process. I really enjoyed working with my tutor, she was always very constructive in her feedback and motivated me to continue keeping up with the good work. The fact that there is a deadline per each assignment, even if it was though at times, it was a great motivation to allocate time to study and work on the assignment. I really felt a great sense of achievement after completing the course and I could only recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about event management. The 12 modules really cover a lot and in details, I really am very satisfied with the results and everything I learnt.

Valeria Pavlov Egorova

Journalism Graduate

A very engaging course successfully balancing practical and theoretical aspects of journalism. I would without a doubt recommend it to anyone wishing to acquire essential journalistic skills and learn more about this profession. The weekly feedback from the tutor allowed me to pin down my writing strengths and weaknesses and served as an indicator of the type of journalistic activity that I would enjoy most. Most importantly, the course gave me confidence in my abilities and gave me a solid general insight into the journalistic field.

Basically from my childhood I was dreaming to become a news reporter. I am from a small village in Kannur, Kerala state in India. After completing my graduation I use to work for an evening news paper for few years. Then I got a chance to come to Bahrain to work as an accountant.
During Nov 2014 I came across an advertisement about ELearning course conducted by Orient Planet Academy in association with The Irish Academy. I decided to join the course, Certificate of Journalism, out of various courses conducted by The Orient Academy.
The journalism course covers 10 modules, covering various aspects of journalism in detail from the abilities of a reporter, language, how to analyze and report successfully, style and questions to be asked, technics of news feature, how to assess the key persons and people connected to be interviewed, how to exchange the information between reporter and the source, and to analyze the heading, emotion visual and insight of the article published. The course was interesting due to the effective assignment provided by the academy.
This journalism course gave me the strength, knowledge and understanding of the alertness of a journalist and dedication towards the job. I am confident that I can take up any assignment of reporting now onwards.
I am thankful to the faculties and administrative staff of the Orient planet for their guidance and prompt assistance throughout the course.
I wish them all success.

Journalism and Radio Journalism Graduate

As a former graduate of the Irish Academy's Journalism course, I had no hesitation in returning to undertake the Diploma in Radio Journalism. The flexible, online approach was key for me as I work full-time. This course gave me an excellent insight into the whole area of radio journalism and the tutor input was fantastic. There is a really good balance between the practical and the theoretical and each of the 20 modules are really engaging. I never thought I would say this about a final assignment but it was a very enjoyable experience! I have to also acknowledge the support from Chris, the Student Liaison Officer who was fantastic in terms of feedback and answering any queries throughout. If you are looking to up skill in any area of media production then definitely look no further than the Irish Academy of Public Relations.

Q: What sort of skills and knowledge did you take away from your course with The Academy?

"The Diploma course was a great introduction to radio journalism. I learned everything from editing techniques to grammar, all things I’d touched upon before but never really grasped. The easily digested reading material helped me gain a new understanding of these topics."

Q: I believe Mrs. Gunning told me that you were interested in moving on to work for Dublin City FM as well, so do you think your course prepared you for that?

"The course taught me the language and background of radio journalism. I feel, with the information I learned, that I would not be out of my depth in any radio station."

Q: And lastly, what did you like most about your course.

"For me, the online distance learning was key. Having two young children, I'm not afforded much time to myself, so having the modules emailed to me, and the freedom to work on the assignments as I pleased, was very helpful."

I'm a sociolinguist from Cork and I did the Event Management course in UCC, I found it to be extremely insightful, relevant and useful. I had some previous knowledge of event planning but after completing the course I can now say with confidence that I can take any event from concept to reality. Because of that, I am currently on the search for a new and exciting role in the events sector. I would highly recommend this course and the Irish Academy of Public Relations to anyone interested in this area.

Dorothy Gray

TV Presenting Graduate

I have a communications background and was interested in learning what is involved with presenting to camera, making a YouTube video. I didn’t really know what to expect from the course – only that it involved expanding into a new area and upskilling in this area. The course more than exceeded anything I had thought. It covered the preparation of an interview from the interviewers perspective to draw in viewers; reading a formal news bullet and using appropriate pacing for different news items and then to making a more casual presentation for YouTube or MTV style. Apart from the educational aspect of the course, it’s a fun programme. We met a diverse group of people with one participate travelling from Europe. And if you have ever been interviewed, taking this course will likely ease the nervousness of the interview. I’d highly recommend the course.

I believe that personal development is a non-stop process so I decided to study the Event Management Diploma at OP Academy. Being in the field for so long. I expected traditional and theoretical courses, however I enjoyed the challenge in each course and I definitely learned new techniques and methods. To anyone considering a job in event management, go ahead and get this diploma as it will boost your career to a new level. OP Academy team is friendly, professional and always ready to support, and the instructors are the best in the field.

As a student, I pride myself in graduating from OP Academy. The entire course with OPA was convenient, very helpful and perfect for busy professionals. Most of all, for someone with very Little background in Event Management, I was not expecting to ace the course. Eventually, after finishing the Diploma, I’m pretty satisfied with practicing Event Management on the ground. I was already considering taking a new course as early as being halfway through Event Management. I have been truly motivated, and I am very thankful to the coaches!

The course provided by the Irish Academy (and Dublin City FM) in radio presenting has empowered me to produce an in-house podcast for the GUI which has in turn allowed us to provide syndicated content to radio stations around Ireland. I would highly recommend the course to anyone who wants to find out how to present a radio show or podcast. Listen to the GUI podcasts at https://soundcloud.com/guigolf/

Radio Presenter Graduate

I learned a lot about what is involved with being a radio presenter. The first is no one sees you! So dress code working in a radio station is more relaxed. The course is held in the studio of Dublin City 103.2 FM. We were introduced to the roles of the producer, editor, researcher and technician. And the role of the presenter including pitch, tone, speed, delivery, comprehension and listening skills. We covered three different types of presentation roles - voicing a news script; conducting Vox Pops and conducting an interview with an author on her current book. We were given feedback on our preparation and analysis on the style, delivery and choice of content. Listening to the radio has not been the same since. I have so much more admiration for what is involved with being a Radio Presenter and all the preparation and research involved to deliver a professional product for different groups of audience. One of the key learnings I have taken away is the increased awareness of listening to your interviewee – a skill we can use in every area of communication. I recommend this course. To finish you are sent on a demo of your course work to help with a job search in the medium of radio if this is your career ambition.
